  • Bullpens are located along the foul lines and are very close to the field
  • Small team store
  • The only ballpark in professional baseball where the batter faces west (directly into the setting sun).
  • Shortest distance to centerfield (354 ft.) in professional baseball.
  • Field was renovated in 2006
  • The on-deck circle is about 80 feet away from the dugouts

Atmosphere/Character:

The park definitely had a historic feel to it. There were murals of former Bakersfield players from when they were affiliated with the Dodgers (Mike Piazza, Pedro Martinez, Don Drysdale, and Erik Karros). Currently, the Blaze are affiliated with the Texas Rangers but you don't see any references to Rangers players as you walk around the park.

There were a few in-game contests and promotions: musical chairs, junior P.A. announcer, t-shirt toss, etc.

Mascot's name: "Heater"

Recognition of Team's History and/or MLB Affiliate:

see section above

Origin of Team's Name:

I was not able to find anything documenting this, but I assume the name "Blaze" is a reference to the scorching temperatures in Bakersfield. At the game that I attended, it was 106 degrees at game time.
