Atmosphere/Character:
I did not get to experience what the atmosphere of Ripken Stadium is like during a game, since we sat through a 2 and a half hour rain delay and then gave up and went home. Unfortunately, the game did begin shortly after we left. Oh well. Next time.
I did not feel a sense of character from Ripken Stadium. It was very "cookie cutter"-ish and very forgettable. It's a nice, clean, well-taken care of stadium, it just isn't one of those parks that sticks out in my mind.

Origin of Team's Name:
The name "IronBirds" was chosen for two reasons: Cal Ripken's "Ironman" streak of 2,632 consecutive baseball games played and the team's affiliation with the Orioles (the Baltimore team is often referred to as "The Birds"). The team logo features a silver airplane marked with Ripken's number 8, which also refers to the nearby Aberdeen Proving Ground U.S. Army installation.
