Atmosphere/Stadium Design:

Beautiful stadium located in downtown San Diego. It was designed to reflect San Diego's sandy beaches, and cliffs. The seats are blue to reflect the color of the Pacific Ocean. One part of the stadium design that I do not like is how fans lose sight of the field in right field. The concourse just did not seem to flow together. Also, I do not care for the design in the upper deck where fans are obstructed by plexy glass on the steps going to the seats.

It was a nice place to watch a game. The ushers were too restricting. I tried to take some pictures in other areas of the upper deck and was asked to leave.

The location of the bullpens seemed a little odd to me. The visiting team's bullpen is located along the first base line and the Padres' bullpen is located beyond the outfield wall.

Restrooms:

  • Several restrooms are located throughout the stadium on each level

Seating:

  • Field level, Toyota Terrace Level, Upper Reserved, Bleachers, or Park Passes.
  • Dark blue seats with cupholders
  • Seats in the outfield are angled towards homeplate
  • Seating in the upper deck in left field is severely obstructed by the Western Metal Supply Co. building.

Interesting Facts/Features:

  • "Park at the Park"- located beyond the outfield wall. Contains a statue of Tony Gwynn, a wiffleball field, and lawn seating. The game is also shown on a large screen on the back of the stadium's scoreboard
  • .
  • "The Beach"- Located beyond the right field wall. Sandy area in front of the bleachers.
  • Five retired numbers: #6 Steve Garvey, #31 Dave Winfield, #19 Tony Gwynn, #35 Randy Jones, and #42 Jackie Robinson.
  • 30' x 53' videoboard

Overall Rating: 9
