Hughes Stadium is named for Charles C. Hughes, the 1st superintendent of the Sacramento City Unified School District. The park opened in 1928 as a football stadium. Hughes Stadium is the former home of the Sacramento Solons, a AAA affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers. They played 3 seasons here from 1974-1976. The stadium is located on the campus of Sacramento City College. When looking at the inside of the park, it is hard to envision how baseball was ever played here.
