McCoy Stadium - Pawtucket, RI

After visiting 16 Minor League stadiums for the first time during the 2009 baseball season, BasebalStadiumReviews.Com's choice for "Minor League Ballpark of the Year" is McCoy Stadium in Pawtucket, RI. McCoy Stadium is home of the Pawtucket Red Sox, triple A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox.

McCoy Stadium opened in 1946 and is the oldest park in the International League. It is also home to the longest professional baseball game in history.

McCoy Stadium is very affordable. Box seats are $10 and General Admission seats are $6. Children 12 and under are only $4. Also, Lawn seating is available. If you arrive early enough, there is free parking in a small lot next to the stadium. Otherwise, you'll have to park across the street in lots that cost $2. Concessions are rather cheap as well. Hot dogs are $2.75 and a large soda is only $2.50. A gigantic portion of french fries is only $3.00.

The main reason McCoy Stadium was chosen as Ballpark of the Year is due to the fact that the Paw Sox's have managed to take an old park and renovate it, while still keeping it's character and old-time feel. The renovations included adding a lawn area in the outfield and luxury suites.

There are a few unique features of McCoy Stadium. The most unique are the luxury suites. They are located on field level, underneath the grand stand. They are embedded in the wall, just like the dugouts. Since the dugouts are located below the grand stand, autograph seekers have to go "fishing" for an autograph. Fans will attach a souvenir on a string and lower it down into the dugout.

Congratulations to McCoy Stadium, 2009 Minor League Ballpark of the Year.
